Styling one of America’s hottest talents, Kristen Chenoweth – LA Insider
We arrived in Las Vegas armed with eight dresses for Kirsten to wear during the awards ceremony, after numerous fittings beforehand. It was such an incredible feeling walking down the halls of the MGM hotel, seeing pictures of all the previous artists who had performed there – everyone from the Rolling Stones, Celine Dion and Sting to Jennifer Lopez and Brittany Spears.
Country music’s biggest stars hit the red carpet for the awards including, Carrie Underwood, Susie Brown, Blake Shelton, Trace Adkins, Ashley Monroe, Angaleena Presley, Miranda Lambert and of course Kristen who totally rocked an emerald green dress by Honor. With a thigh-high slit and plunging neckline this dress is from Honor’s 2011 Fall collection and was the evening’s most talked about look. Not everyone can pull off such a daring neckline, but I think this cut totally worked with Kristen’s petite frame and showed off her best assets.
The country music world is a whole different world to what I’m used to in LA and New York, with almost every man donning a cowboy hat!
During the awards show I was based left of stage, in a quick change room to help Kristen dress into all her different looks. With 10 changes to be done throughout the evening with only seven, eight or nine minutes for each, pulses were certainly running high behind the scenes! But we pulled off all her quick changes and she looked amazing. I really loved her dressed in two different outfits by Naeem Khan, one with a yellow gown and black floral embroidery and the other a white gown with a sweetheart neckline and a pattern of tulips – just stunning.
We also dressed Kristen in a pair of jeans with some serious butt padding whilst she sang Trace Adkins “Honkytonk Badonkadonk.”. Kristen came on stage in a boxing robe and red gloves for the sketch, before she removed them to reveal her massively padded behind, in front of her co-host Adkins!
Live changes are definitely one of the toughest styling challenges, but we had so much fun and as always, Kristen is a delight to work with.
