Australian based brand Frankie Swimwear is conquering the swimwear industry one bikini at a time, and can now add ‘debut at New York Fashion Week’ to its portfolio of global swimwear domination.
Engineering the basic bikini and one-piece with classic cuts and luxurious textiles, since launching in 2013 the brand is rapidly attracting a cult following across Australia, Asia, Europe and the U.S. The timeless pieces have earned celeb status, with celebrities such as Kylie Jenner to Bella Hadid spotted wearing Frankie Swimwear’s iconic, simply sexy swimsuits.
Following the NYFW debut, we caught up with Frankie Swimwear founder Rebecca Klodinsky, to chat about the phenomenal success of the swimwear brand and what we can expect from the new collections.
Stylehunter: Congratulations on your debut in NYFW! Looking back, could you foresee 3 years ago that Frankie Swimwear would be the household name it is today?
Rebecca: Looking back, my hopes for Frankie have always been high. It was always my intention to make a mark on the swim industry. I did always expect and believe that my label would reach success. I believe however, the growth and success of my business is due to me purposely directing the label in a very one dimensional and linear direction. I don’t pay attention to trends, I don’t aim for Frankie to keep up. I think my customers resonate with this and identify Frankie as a reliable and individual label.
SH: There’s an extremely loyal community around Frankie Swimwear, how did this cult following begin?
Rebecca: The Frankie following is an authentic flow on effect from our loyal customers. The fact that Frankie Swimwear has been embraced and accepted by the likes of Kylie & Kris Jenner, Rihanna, and Bella Hadid speaks volumes of the fit, quality and overall feel of Frankie. The brilliance of Frankie is that whatever your style, age or size, the suits are so versatile you can we them and remain true to your own style. You aren’t placed in a ‘trending’ box. At Frankie Swimwear we don’t excessively boast or broadcast to be the best – our followers and lovers of the label do that for us. Just ask Kylie….
SH: It must have been a crazy time for the Frankie Swimwear team leading up to your NYFW debut, what went on behind the scenes in prepping for the global runway?
Rebecca: Organised chaos! On top of all of the normal day-to-day operations, which is already manic thanks to the European Summer and the Australian SS17 release, behind the scenes was very crazy. Preparation, preparation,preparation. We organise our collections ahead of time, as far as January 2017.
SH: What’s next for Frankie Swimwear?
Rebecca: Frankie By Rebecca (ready-to-wear seamless clothing) just launched at NYFW which was extremely exciting. As for Frankie Swimwear, fresh palettes, new faces, and a lot of game changers will be released in 2017!
