SKY high stilettos – too high for some, but fashion – right up there!
Leading designers including Dion Lee, Ellery, Magdalena Velevska, Josh Goot, Therese Rawsthorne, Gary Bigeni and Christopher Esber revealed their stunning winter collections for 2012 in the L’Oreal Melbourne Fashion Festival Vogue.com.au sponsored parade last night.
Lee’s revolutionary fashion with modern cut-outs and 3D style geometric prints were a standout, shown off in a stunning orange knee-length dress and silk print shirt and figure-hugging skirt.
Rich in colour and style, with a chocolate and blue floral print and another gorgeous burgundy, black and chocolate leaf print in refined and sexy fitted dresses, Josh Goot’s collection was another winner.
His take on the traditional black tux for women was a highlight.
Ellery continues her love of metallic gold, showing dramatic dresses, tops and skirts in the gleaming fabrics which were balanced by more fragile pieces including a beautiful peplum jacket in cream and skirt with beaded detail, as well as soft cream leather pieces with laser-cut detail.
But it was Velevska who stole the show with her eye popping bursts of bold colours and spectacular silk fringing detail on jackets, tops, skirts and dresses. Her green hemmed dress in an asymmetrical cut, paisley print with fringing dress and multi-coloured fringed jackets were a standout.
While the collections on show were simply sensational, it became evident, after several models stepped out and removed their sky high stilettos, that making an artistic statement was secondary to safety – at first, we thought it was part of the show!
All in all, this was a runway collection that was cohesive, charming and altogether wearable.
This was one of our favourite L’Oreal Paris Runway shows to date thus far at LMFF and with good reason.
