Oh happy hair! Is there even such a thing? We can wake up and get it totally right but if you know your hair all too well, sometimes it has other ideas!

Here’s a little helpful list of solutions for the most common hair problems.

Shiny Oily Hair

Dry shampoo should be your best friend and always kept closely on hand. With so many dry shampoo’s now on the market you can find the perfect one for your hair colour. No more white roots for you! Dry shampoo magically absorbs those dreadful oily roots and also provides volume where needed the most.

Avoid Products that contain Sodium Lauryl Sulphate, as this ingredient can be quite damaging to your hair and dry it up over time. Avoiding products that contain natural oils as these will also add to your oily problem so stay well clear.

Try: Batiste Dry Shampoo Neon Lights Pomegranate & Jasmine RRP $9.95.  Available at Priceline.

Dreaded Dry Locks

The secret here is all in moisturising your locks. Invest in a good moisturising shampoo and conditioner and also a really good moisturising treatment. And ALWAYS use a heat protection product when heat styling your hair.

Avoid Products with too much alcohol in the formulation as these will dehydrate the hair follicles.

Try: Paul Mitchell Instant Moisture Daily Shampoo RRP $19.95 & Paul Mitchell Instant Moisture Daily Treatment RRP $23.90. Available at Hairhouse Warehouse.

Frizzy Fly-Away

Start with a smoothing shampoo and conditioner and finish with a leave in treatment to nourish and even-out hair’s porosity. Make sure to finish with an anti frizz cream or balm to tame those straggly fly-aways.

Avoid Products like gels, as after they set they make our hair crunchy and tend to look stringy and untidy.

Try: Davroe Smooth Senses Straightening Balm RRP $9.95. Available at Hairhouse Warehouse.

Ultra Fine Hair

Always use shampoos and conditioners designed for fine hair that won’t weigh your hair down. When styling, opt for volumising products and ultra light sprays. A great product to use for fine hair is a styling powder dust.

Avoid Heavy conditioners and shampoos such as “moisturising” formulations. These will have a heavy result on your fine hair.

Try: TONY & GUY Casual Sculpting Powder RRP $15.99. Available at Priceline.

Thick & Full

Choosing the best products for thicker hair is a tad more tricky. You need to opt for hydrating products that are soft and lightweight.

Avoid Formulations that are too sticky as your hair needs to fully absorb the product for optimum results.

Try: Matrix Total Results Repair Break Fix Leave-in Elixir. RRP $25.00. Available at Hairhouse Warehouse.

Unruly Curls

Two staple products that you need in you bathroom are a really good leave in conditioner and a curl activator which will tame frizz and control those curls.

Avoid Products that contain non water-soluble silicones. What are these? Look for ingredients that end in “cone”, “conol”, “col” and “xane” on the label.

Try: Bhave Flex Styling Paste. RRP $29.50.  www.bhavehair.com.au
