Most haircare tutorials require at least 2 styling products combined with a heated styling tool but GHDs, curling tongs and hairdryers can take a toll on hair shine and resilience. What you’ll learn in this article:

  • You don’t need any styling products to get loose beach waves
  • You also don’t need your GHD if you need to straighten hair (though this may depend on how your hair curls)
  • If you don’t want to use any hair product, you don’t have to

The following styles take a few minutes and patience. It requires half the effort of anything I’ve ever tried.

Easy Peasy Hairstyles to Try This Week….

For Loose, Beach Waves

If you want that effortless ‘I just woke up like this’ type of curls (ala Lara Bingle), shampoo your hair and let it air dry until hair is 70% dry. Spritz a seal salt spray onto damp hair and wrap hair into a top know. Leave till completely dry.

Take elastic out and let the waves drop. Spritz hairspray if you prefer but I find that the curls stay in place.

Products to Use:

  • Wide tooth comb
  • Evo Salty Dog Spray (or sea salt spray)
  • Elastics
  • Hair Spray

Don’t worry if the hair looks like a big mess, the waves will settle into place.

For Smaller Curls that Look ‘Done’

Beautiful girl with long wavy hair

If you want your hair to look ‘done’, part your hair in the middle and put hair into two tight braids. Spritz hair with a holding mist. Leave your hair braided overnight and take out the elastics in the morning. If you find that it needs a little styling, scrunch your hair, don’t brush through.

  • Products to Use:
  • Wide tooth comb
  • Holding Mist

For Straight, Blow Dried Hair

Try wrap brushing. I first discovered this technique in Zoe Foster’s Amazing Face. This technique is great for travelling as you don’t need to pack your heating tools. No product is necessary for this one but I’d put some conditioner on the ends or a hair serum. Leave damp hair to air till it’s 70% dry. Section your hair in 6 parts and brush each section over the other with a paddle brush. Doing so will create volume.

Products to Use:

  • Wide tooth comb
  • Paddle brush
  • Hair serum (Argan oil)

Tips:

  • Hair sets when it is dry. If you’re experimenting any of these hair styles, make sure hair is completely dry for a longer hold
  • Sleeping on a silk pillowcase is not only great for your face, but also helps prevent split ends. You can find these at Sheridan or Slip
  • If you’re using a lot of hair product, use a clarifying shampoo once a week
