Nicki Minaj has been known for her extravagant style. Wearing wigs in all kinds of shapes and colors and over the top outfits that always give people something to talk about. But in the past  couple of months we’ve noticed she has changed, for starters she stopped using wigs, instead she wears her long black hair. Now she opts for more toned down outfits, most of the time in black or neutral colors. However she’s still Nicki Minaj so don’t expect her to wear a conservative full black gown covering her entire body, she maintains her style and her essence, she just does it in a less extravagant way.

We saw her at the MTV Movie Awards wearing a long Alexander McQueen black dress. Different from what we’ve seen her wear but still sexy and curve-hugging.

At the Billboard Awards she also wore a black Alexander McQueen gown, this time with some cut outs for a very sexy but classy feel.

At the premiere of The Other Woman, a film where she stars along with Cameron Diaz, Leslie Mann and Kate Upton, she wore a long knitted nude dress.

At the  performance for Summer Jam she wore high waisted black and white pants with a metallic sheer crop showing star nipple pasties. In comparison this is not a very toned down outfit but comparing to her previous front its still very toned down!

Everyone is now talking about her because of this new conservative style. When asked about the reason for this drastic move she answered saying that she had to do something new and unexpected, and since she had already done everything extravagant she would go for the natural look and surprise everybody. At the very beginning of her career, when she was doing underground rap, she used to dress like this, so now she has gone back to basics and the true star she is.

Wearing mostly black dresses she’s proven now that she doesn’t need crazy colored wigs or weird dresses to make a statement and get the public’s attention. Going back to her roots is just as memorable as a pink wig.
