Fashion Week. New York, London, Milan and Paris; a-buzz with the whose who of fashion; who is sitting front row, who is sending the paparazzi into a spin on the streets, which designers will reign and who will fall, and of course, what is EVERYONE wearing. Exhausting! And the show hasn’t even started yet.
But when the lights dim, and the music begins, there will be one more question on everyone’s lips… Who will open the show?
The runway is the designers first opportunity to make the the right impression and we all know that in fashion, first impressions count; it’s the time to establish the scene, tell a story and set the tone for the up and coming season; the hope of evoking emotional responses and creating lasting impressions influencing the decision makers about what we will be wearing. The weight of the fashion world is surely on their shoulders.
Now for a moment put yourself in the shoes of the girls, (who tend to have quite small shoulders), tasked with the role of opening the show; stepping on to the stage and all the meaning that it holds for the success of the collection. These girls deserve their places; and I can’t help but wonder if there is a quick moment of terror mixed with excitement as they take that first step into a shared dream.
So who were the girls making some of our favourite first impressions for A/W15, transporting audiences into another time and place?
First for fashion legend Diane Von Furstenberg in New York, was Kendall Jenner, (The Society) and there was no denying Ms Jenner’s presence on the runway for some of fashions’ biggest designers, including Vera Wang and of course Chanel, where she walked alongside model royalty (aka) Cara! Kendall is certainly making her way to the top and we can’t wait to track her next move!
If you could choose one designer to open and close for during Paris Fashion Week, there is no second guessing who that would be. Queen of the runway, and a clear favourite of Karl Lagerfeld, Cara Delevingne (Elite) for Chanel. There’s really nothing more to say.
These are just some of the memorable moments captured for models with something in common other than their out of this world good looks and genetic make-up, opening for fashions biggest shows.
As you plow through the week that was for fashion AW15, let us know your favourites and what story you think they tell xo
