UNLESS you’ve been living under a rock, you’ll have noticed that statement sleeves are e-v-e-r-y-w-h-e-r-e this season.
And the best part? It doesn’t matter what your statement style is, it seems our talented designer friends have covered the spectrum with statement sleeves that will fit nicely into any winter wardrobe.
Everyone in our #stylehuntersquad are big fans of this look and so I decided it was time to sit down and do some much-needed stalking … uh, I mean ‘research’ into what looks we can pull off by slipping these crazy sleeves on.
Some quick tips:
Pretty crazy: For a pretty, classic look, try ruffles on your sleeves and team it with a basic A-line mini skirt or tailored pants.
Comfort is queen: For a comfortable, effortlessly-chic look, try an off-the-shoulder statement sleeve and throw on some skinny-leg or boyfriend jeans. Dress it up with heels or down with sandals – you could even wear some clean white sneakers with it (always!).
Sizeable sleeves: For boho-chic, try a crochet or patterned, flared sleeve dress (perhaps leave that one for a warmer season, though).
If you’re feeling a little hesitant in rocking the statement sleeve, start with a piece which has a little less ‘statement’ than others.
Consider long sleeves with some simple cut outs, tie ups or just longer-than-normal sleeves (yup, these are a thing too).
You can get your hands on some amazing statement sleeve pieces almost everywhere, but just in case you get stuck, try out retailers The Iconic, ASOS, Net-A-Porter, Cue, Bardot and Nasty Gal to name a few!
If you want to check out a personal go-to for #stylehunters check out So It Goes The Label. Stylehunter featured the ever-gorgeous Kate Anderson (Designer and founder of SIG) just a few months ago and – when it comes to statement sleeves – this girl really knows her stuff.
“The statement sleeve is a great way to update a simple staple piece – like the classic white shirt,” Anderson said.
“The look can vary from the oversized sleeve cuffs we saw at Fashion Week (which make everything from texting to drinking a coffee an impossible task); a bell sleeve or more complicated with ruffles and frills — there are multiple ways to work this season’s hottest look.”
We don’t know about you, but this is one trend we are definitely on board with. And with labels like SIG in the market offering stunning options – we’re a tad scared for our wallets.
You feel the same, right? Already searching the above retailers to get your hands on one? Thought you would be. Shop away! And whichever way you choose to wear it, make sure you’re really letting the sleeves be the statement in your final ensemble.
