Beyond deep oceans, nautical sentiments and holidays in the Hampton’s, our favourite blue hues are doing more than colouring the Summer skies this season. From inspiring interiors and decor at Cabarita Beach’s boutique Halcyon house, to the Spring/Summer 16 collections at Chanel and my favourite monogrammed PJ’s from Jasmine and Will, the full palette of blues has without a doubt become a favourite and a key trend this season across every facet of our lifestyle;
Sky blue, azure, indigo, peacock and powdery blue hues all carry a high end appeal and our classic friend Navy remains a colour of sophistication and once again has been coined ‘the new black’. And though traditionally this most calming of hues has been the least attention seeking, there is a boldness to the palette this season that we cannot ignore.
It’s taking centre stage in our homes, dominating our wardrobes and dare I say it, has even snuck its way back into our beauty routine; yes, blue eye shadow has made a very fashionable come back!
For the sanctuary’s that we call home, the perfected pairing is created with a combination of neutral palettes and natural textures providing a sense of calm and serenity to our space, and if you are looking for a level of intensity, sophistication and glamour, take it a shade deeper and combine with gold accents with occasional pops of colour and highlights of azure and peacock hues. Regardless of whether you indulge in the deep or prefer a lighter, coastal feel, in the words of Elle, blue hits all the notes you need in Summer.
As we cast our eyes to the SS16 runways, the forecast remains clear; In London, it was Mary Katrantzou and Jonathan Saunders who played a beauty game with palettes of sky, aquamarine, and cobalt and in New York Diane Von Furstenburg and Marc Jacobs led the way and who could possibly go past the most brilliant of aqua-blues at Missoni in Milan?
And for your wardrobe, this new colour wave is so much more than denim…take it to the next level and find inspiration from Chanel, Marc Jacobs and Temperley London .
Blue. It’s the new mood.
