After months of speculation, Louis Vuitton has named former director of Balenciaga, Nicholas Ghesquière, as its new artistic director of women’s collections.

After 15 years at Balenciaga, Ghesquière will step straight into the job with his first Louis Vuitton runway to be held next March. The designer’s incredible vision, complex tailoring and use of modern fabrics enabled him to recreate Balenciaga from a once ailing fashion house to one of the most sought after tickets at Paris Fashion Week.

Louis Vuitton said Ghesquière will bring “a modern creative vision to the House’s women’s collections, building on the values of refinement, savoir faire and extreme quality.”

“Louis Vuitton has always incarnated for me the symbol of ultimate luxury, innovation and exploration. I am very honored of the mission that I am entrusted with, and proud to join the history of this great Maison,” said Ghesquière.

After leaving Balenciaga one year ago due to a dispute over the direction of the label, Nicholas Ghesquière has laid low until today’s announcement.
