I am not a pillar of health and fitness and I am certainly not a word leader when it comes to sports appropriate attire, probably because of my limited participation in anything ‘sport’ or  ‘fitness ‘related. What I am is fashion conscious and as I add a second weekly Pilates session into my less than vigorous fitness regime the more need I have for sportswear that has an element of style and sophistication. Not simply because I always want to look my best but also because usually I am heading somewhere else directly afterward.

As the line between ready to wear and active wear continues to blur the number of designers either re launching or debuting an active wear line is multiplying. Tory Burch is set to unveil her new active wear line in her Soho store in early spring 2015 while VPL is also joining the fitness revolution with a re-launch of its active wear aka ‘active fashion’ label, also set for a 2015 debut.

VPL have created a line that moves between the traditional (Gym, Yoga) to the non traditional (everything else) a concept they have coined a double shelf life and they are banking on the demand of the time poor woman who needs her sportswear to seamlessly transition between life’s moments.

Stylish sportswear definitely requires its own bandwagon and one designer who has front row seats is Stella McCartney with her Adidas by Stella McCartney. When the collaboration started in 2005 Stella took sports wear to a whole other level and with each season the appeal has been further realized.

In her latest collection she has upped the anty to create a line that reflects her life ethic with a focus on nature. She does this partly superficially by including wood grain prints and earthy color palettes like green and brown, and more in depth by incorporating environmentally low impact organic cotton and a low waste dying process in her fabrics and designs.

The look book, a little dark and dramatic, showcases the sporty designs against a backdrop of an English Manor. Culturally significant for McCartney and beautifully photographed the designs are functional, highly fashionable and just plain cool. Everything featured are pieces that you will want to own and a fair warning that prolonged exposure to Adidas by Stella  McCartney may increase your desire for physical activity.
