I recently had the privilege of styling the David Jones Autumn/Winter 14 Fashion Preview event in Adelaide to celebrate the arrival of new season collections for both the girls and the guys. The event showcased the key trends for the upcoming season to media, bloggers, invited guests, and David Jones card members, with a fashion parade hosted by international stylist Jo Ferguson.
David Jones has a plethora of talented Australian designers in their fashion offering, which highlight the modernity, innovation, and wearability that has become the defining signature of the David Jones’ fashion family.
Jewell Tones opened the parade as one of the key trends for the season and is all about neutral shades contrasted with hues of magenta, ruby, and electric blue. Channelling this trend will ensure you stand out in the crowd and designers such as Camilla & Marc, Ginger and Smart, and Cailbre are testament to that.
Deconstructed Glamour encompasses ingenious cuts, intriguing detail, and mostly a black and white colour palette, with a strong focus on youthfulness and a modern attitude. Think Ellery, Willow, and Thurley to master this look.
Print Run exudes bold patterns and prints, as well as texture and rich fabrics. Houndstooth, checks, pinstripes, and animal prints are standouts for this trend, and can be seen on both men and women. Nicola Finetti, Carla Zampatti and Zanerobe have taken on prints to the next level.
Denim Decoded as the name suggests focuses on a fashion favourite over the years – denim. With a backwards glance towards the nineties, some of the most current denim brands are going back to their roots and taking inspiration from when it all began. Think blue jeans, double denim, and jean jackets, and with the help of brands such as J Brand, Nobody denim, and Rag and Bone, you can’t go wrong.
Shades of Grey focuses purely on grey and all the varietals available – smoky charcoal, granite, and soft dove, with grey being the headlining hue this season for head to toe outfits. Take lead from Bassike, Seed, and Sabatini to work this popular shade in to your wardrobe.
The Icons shows us that there are certain pieces no wardrobe should be without – the classics that everyone needs to remain fashion forward. Think silk shirts, printed jackets, leather leggings, blazers, and black trousers, and brands such as Jac and Jack, Jack London, and Zimmerman have crafted the perfect pieces.
