Step aside contouring- strobing is on the new hit list and it’s not too difficult to achieve the perfect highlight.
But what exactly is it and how do you create the “strobe” effect?
In a nutshell strobing is basically an ultra-cool term for “highlighting”. Why should we highlight? The perfect application will give you a dewy, shimmery, youthful looking glow. Perfect for Spring/Summer.
Always ensure to use a highlighter shade that compliments your skin tone. Here’s a quick guide.
FAIR SKIN – Pearl tones for a natural non “ashy” glow.
Try: boe professional Radiant Face Illuminator RRP $8.95 www.boeprofessional.com.au
LIGHT-MEDIUM SKIN – Pink champagne tones create that “just right” effect
Try: Benefit Cosmetics High Beam Liquid Face Highlighter RRP $45.00 www.myer.com.au
Try: NYX Born To Glow Illuminator in Gleam RRP $14.95 www.target.com.au
DARK SKIN – Terracotta tones and deeper yellow and golds as they will enhance the warmer tones.
Try: Nars The Multiple in South Beach RRP $56.00
So how exactly do you achieve the strobe effect?
LIGHT CATCHER – only use your highlighter on areas that catch the light. So make sure to apply product to cheekbones, along your temples, the bridge of your nose, below your brow bone, in the corners of your eyes and above your cupid’s bow. These areas, when highlighted correctly, will enhance your natural features.
PRO TIP – If you have oily skin, skip areas like your forehead or chin, which have a sheen to them already.
BLEND – always ensure to blend well. After applying your highlighter, blend outwards using a good quality fan brush.
PRO TIP – Choose a matte bronzer and or a blush in addition to your shimmery highlighter and avoid highlighting any problem areas that will become far more visible.
And it’s as easy as precise application and blending. Time to get strobing!
