Queensland Gears Up for Mercedes-Benz Fashion Festival Brisbane
With Brisbane’s Mercedes-Benz Fashion Festival not two weeks away, the Sunshine State style set is gearing up for one hot week of Spring/Summer fashion.
Having experienced some serious post-fashion week withdrawals since Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week Sydney in May, I for one am very excited about getting my runway on once again with the stellar line-up of shows running from Saturday 25th through to Friday 31st August.
My top three picks? The Myer Spring/Summer ‘13 Fashion Show would have to be my first definite must-see, with the retail giant showcasing the latest new-season collections from some of its top resident designers. Think Sass & Bide, Jayson Brunsdon, Manning Cartell, Aurelio Costarella, Ellery and Magdalena Velevska just to name a few. You know, “the biggies”.

The remaining two shows I am most looking forward to are a little more under-the-radar: the Australian Fashion Graduate of the Year Award show and Emerging Designer Group Show. As the names suggest, the designers in these shows are yet to make their mark on the fashion industry, and this is precisely why I love these showcases – they are all about the talent. No egos or grandeur, just pure unadulterated design talent. As with MBFWA, where the New Generation Shows absolutely rocked my fashionable socks, the showcases for the up-and-coming designers are definitely the ones to see if you want to look into the bright future of Australian fashion.
While these are the most anticipated shows in my calendar, I will be heading to plenty of others throughout MBFF, getting my blog on for the Brisbane fashion scene. My Blackberry Playbook will most certainly be my companion of choice during the week – this keen little gadget is a blogger’s best friend. Its sleek and compact design makes it perfect for taking quick snaps of the action on the runway, and the ability to edit files on the go is an absolute lifesaver with deadlines like mine. Bring on the fashion-induced madness of MBFF Brisbane, I say.
You can check out the full program of events on the official Mercedes-Benz Fashion Festival Brisbane website. Tickets are still available but selling fast so get in quick to get in on the action. You an also follow on Facebook and Twitter for more updates in the lead-up to and throughout the week.
Hope to see you there!
