Trends: White Shoes – Kaitlyn Ham

If there were one trend I never – ever – thought I would get into, it would be white shoes. Now, it seems, they are all I can think about.

White footwear has covered the international runways in the recent Spring/Summer collections, from Narciso Rodriguez to street-chic master Alexander Wang all sending them down the runway, and making one heck of a statement along the way.

It seems the influx of graphic floral prints and soft pastel hues in the S/S collections has prompted the trend, with designers moving away from the heavy anchoring of black footwear to the sleekness of white.

The good news for those of us in the southern hemisphere? White shoes are also perfect for freshening up your Autumn/Winter wardrobe. Top-to-toe black outfits can be instantly lightened up with a pair of sleek white pointed pumps or ankle boots, while pastel knits and floral pants (that we will be seeing everywhere this A/W, trust me) love nothing more than being paired with light white strappy sandals or cool white leather loafers.

Here are a few of my top picks to get you walking the white way:

Alexander Wang ‘Joan’ Pointed Pumps – $562.00

Alexander Wang Annette Sandals – $350.00

ASOS ‘MAYBE’ Leather Brogues with Thick Tread Sole – $64.88

Jil Sander Patent-Leather Pumps – $495

ASOS ‘MARGOT’ Loafers with Weave and Tassel Detail – $64.88

Tony Bianco ‘Karissa’ Sandals – $169.95

ASOS ‘SIENNA’ Leather Point Court Shoes with Cross Strap – $137.87

Jeffrey Campbell ‘BETTE’ Perforated Suede Wedges – $129.95

This trend may not be for everyone, but for the daringly fashionable amongst you, I definitely recommend giving white footwear a go.

Now, if only I could decide on a pair myself…
