Want to nail that effortlessly flawless natural-beauty look? Napoleon Perdis’ Head Make Up Artist, Siobhan Kelly, shares her essential beauty tips, the hottest make up trends for the season and how to perfect that natural glow.
What’s trending in beauty at the moment?
Reflective Contouring is huge on the runway. Sometimes referred to as strobing it’s basically skipping the contouring and opting for luminous highlights instead. By applying highlights to the skin, your face with naturally look contoured and more naturally beautiful.
Electric Blue is a really fun trend for 2016. The best way to add a splash of colour to your look is with a hint of blue around the lash line. Apply as an eyeliner for a subtle way to stay ahead of the trend.
First it was eyebrows like Cara Delevigne, then lips like Kylie Jenner…whats the next big thing in beauty?
We are really loving multi textured makeup at the moment. So instead of a look being all 90’s matte, or all shimmery and dewy, it’s very modern to switch it up. Try wearing a matt lip with a dewy foundation. Or a matte foundation and shiny shimmery lips and eyes. The options are endless and allow you to really create an interesting and gorgeous look.
The best thing you ever learnt about make up?
My favourite trick to use for luminous highlights, J.Lo eyes, making my pout pop and creating a red carpet complexion is to apply a loose golden shimmery eyeshadow. I use it every single day. It warms up the skin, looks incredibly radiant and beautiful and is perfect colour for all skin tones. For best results, lightly sweep the colour onto the skin using a large fluffy eyeshadow brush to attract light and make the skin glow.
Any make up rules you swear by?
Removing your makeup is so important and cleansing properly is essential. It can really be a skin saver. Sleeping in you makeup can result in premature aging, snapped eyelashes and reactions to the skin and eyes. I like to cleanse twice nightly to ensure every inch of makeup is removed from my skin and any debris and oils from the day are gone.
No matter how much I try to perfect contouring, it ends up not working at all or looking way too over the top for a day at the office… any tips to achieving that natural-looking definition and glow?
Ditch the heavy contouring looks in favour of reflecting contouring. It’s modern, easy to apply and looks gorgeous. It’s all about using luminous creams as a highlighter. Apply to the top of the cheekbones, cupids bow and down the bridge of the nose to enhance your natural features. You will find that the skin will look naturally contoured.
