Hollywood has its very own real-life princess in the form of the enchanting Elle Fanning. With her gold locks and darling blue eyes, the little sis of Dakota Fanning is living the fairy tale dream. Elle plays Princess Aurora (aka Sleeping Beauty) in Disney’s new film Maleficent starring the ever so beautiful Angelina Jolie. With a dark twist on the 1959 Disney classic, Elle brings a natural sweetness on and off screen with her dedication to her character’s style, proving this fresh faced California girl is fashion’s newest it girl.
At the young age of sixteen, Elle’s fashion resume includes some pretty impressive gigs. Along with Oscar winner Lupita Nyong’o, Elizabeth Olsen, and Bella Heathcote, Fanning appears in the brightly coloured Miu Miu’s spring/summer 2014 campaign featuring ankle-strap platform heels and eccentric tights. At the age of thirteen, she was the star of Marc by Marc Jacobs’ fall 2011 campaign wearing chic full-length fur coats. The budding fashionista has also worked closely with the father of fashion himself, Karl Lagerfeld, and caught the attention of the sisters behind Rodarte, who Elle calls her, “Fashion fairy godmothers.” Kate and Laura Mulleavy of Rodarte have said, “Fashion is one of the many ways that [Elle] so eloquently expresses of her artistic nature.”
Standing at least 6ft tall, Elle has worked in the company of some of the film industry’s biggest names. She is a favourite of filmmakers Steven Spielberg and JJ Abrams, and was chosen by dreamy and fashionable director Sofia Coppola to star in here 2010 film, Somewhere, which ended up putting the smiling and charming youngster on the movie map. And if that isn’t enough, Elle played the role of Cate Blanchett and Brad Pitt’s daughter in the film Babel (talk about a gorgeous film family).
And lets be real, it’s not an easy task to stand next to Angelina Jolie on a red carpet, but Elle Fanning’s daring fashion choices on the Maleficent promotional tour has given Jolie’s fashion picks a run for their money. In an interview with Vogue UK, Fanning said, “I was aware of clothes from a really young age and my mother would let me be very free in what I wanted to put on. I just love fashion; it excites me. I used to be very girly, and I still am, I love ruffles and bows and pink, but I think my style is evolving in a way. Now I’m like, ‘OK, I can wear more of a straight skirt instead of a poufy one.'” I don’t know about you, but to me, that sounds like all the qualities of a princess’s wardrobe. The pale and pretty teen has taken her role as Sleeping Beauty incredibly serious whilst promoting the film. Fanning has basically transformed herself into the real-life version of Princess Aurora by taking her character from the film screen to the red carpet. How cute is that?
Wearing a flowing embellished frock from Alexander McQueen, Fanning recreates the 16th-century classic and lavish nightgown from the original Sleeping Beauty story. The silhouette is historic and the palette is incredibly sweet. The young starlet is fresh-faced and dawns gorgeous loose curls, giving the look an enchanted feel. Sidenote: Fanning’s eye shadow game is on point.
Arriving at Tokyo’s airport in style, Elle literally wears her character. Flaunting a t-shirt dress featuring the original animated Sleeping Beauty, Elle cheekily promotes her film whilst looking adorable. And to top the look off, she pairs the dress with matting Miu Miu pumps.
Looking magnificent lovely in a moss-green Valentino ensemble, with all around amazing human being Angelina Jolie by her side, Elle pulls off one of the most clever fashion choices of the promotional tour by wearing Charlotte Olympia Sleeping Beauty pumps to keep the look on theme.
So what’s new for fashion’s new it girl? It has recently been announced that Elle will claim the lead role in the upcoming film about Frankenstein author, Mary Shelley. Does this mean will see some darker looks from Fanning? Who knows, the girl plays her characters to a flawless tee.
Oh, and last but not least, some bonus points for Miss. Fanning – she’s is related to none other then the real princess herself, Kate Middleton, Duchess of Cambridge. Umm, cool much?
